Aim

To understand and apply the basic techniques and tactics to be used during VIPs visits.
Learning outcomes

On completion of this module, the participants will be able to:

•    Identify the different phases of a Close Protection Operation
•    Define the role of a close protection team
•    Demonstrate the techniques and tactics to be applied in support of close protection teams for general security purpose (Static and Mobile protection).


Training sequence

The material is designed to be delivered over 16 hours’ classroom based theory lessons, followed by 16 hours of practice, which should include, at least 2 hours for assessment. This is on the assumption that the students have received no previous training in this subject.
Lesson 1 – Basic tactics on VIP protection (theory and practical element) (16 hours)
Lesson 2 – Internal safety and Leadership skills (8 HOURS)

Aim
To introduce the FPU (formed protection unit) to the basic techniques and tactics to be used during VIPs visits.
Learning outcomes
The participants will be able to:
•    Identify the different phases of a close protection operation
•    Define the role of a close protection team
•    Demonstrate the techniques and tactics to be applied in support of close protection teams for general security purpose (Static and Mobile protection)

Objective
The aim of protective services is to:
•    Preserve the life of the person being protected (the “protectee”) and
•    Prevent or minimize the effect of an attack intended to cause physical harm or embarrassment

Close protection operations

CP Operations may be separated into distinct phases:
 
•    Planning phase
•    Operational phase
•    Post deployment phase
The operational phase may be further separated into three phases:
•    Direct protection phase
•    Mobile protection phase (on foot / convoy)
•    Static protection phase

Static protection

The aim of static protection is to:
•    Eliminate or reduce the opportunity for attack by placing defensive perimeters between the protected asset and a potential attackers or the means by which an attack may delivered
•    Perimeters may be intended to:
    Deter, detect, delay, defend or defeat an attacker

•    Planning and tasking meeting
